Access Management and Separation Distance on Port Roads

Abstract:

A research was made of the heavy vehicle traffic in port area to investigate its traffic characteristics. Based on the theoretical analysis and simulation, the type of traffic organization, Type C, was recommended for the access when the traffic volume of main roads is over 400 veh·h-1 or the left turn volume of minor road more than 250 veh·h-1. In addition, a theoretical calculation method of separation distance was also proposed, which was verified by a VISSIM simulation model for its safety and efficiency.
