    Abstract:

Based on a large number of eye movement driving experiments, the evaluation index of visual overload named “maximum transient velocity value of pupil area” (MTPA) was established. Correlation among drivers’ visual obstacles, driving visual comfort and visual load was analyzed by applying MTPA evaluation index at entrance and exit of freeway tunnel, therefore visual environment scopes to be improved are obtained under different speed limited during the daytime and the night respectively. And some improvement measures on tunnel white hole effect and black hole effect at entrance and exit of highway tunnel are recommended by means of plant planning, illumination enhancement, road surface coloring, etc.
